Monica L. Harris, 89, Hardinville, IL passed away at 6:55 P.M. on Sunday September 11, 2016 at Good Samaritan Hospital, Vincennes, IN.
Monica was born in Crawford County near Kibbie on January 14, 1927. She was the daughter of Orville Finney and Vertia (Randolph) Finney. On February 5, 1947 she married Francis L. Harris and he preceded her in death on January 24, 2006.
During WWII Monica worked at Ward Cortelyou’s Machine Shop welding components for small airplanes that were used for target practice for fighter pilots. After the war Monica worked as a grocery clerk at a store on South Range Street in Oblong. Monica was a member of the Oblong Township High School Class of 1945; a member of the Hardinville Christian Church as well as the Stitch and Sew at the church and the Ladies Home Extension Service of the Hardinville area. Monica enjoyed playing piano and remained very active in the church activities. She loved her kids and grandkids.
Monica is survived by two sons and daughter-in-law Kevin and Linda Harris, Hardinville, IL and Lindell Harris, Flat Rock, IL; four grandchildren Kendra and Brian Ridlen, Oblong, IL, Kyle and Mandy Harris, Robinson, IL, Matthew Harris, Seattle, WA and Katie Harris, Littleton, CO;
Three great-grandchildren Olivia Ridlen, Oblong, IL, Jackson Ridlen, Oblong, IL and Madi Harris, Robinson, IL as well as several nieces and nephews.
Preceding Monica in death were her parents, husband, brothers Harold and Warren Finney and a sister Lenore Bush.
